We focused on visually depicting Coffee Lab as a Cafe which experiments with Brews, Blends & Flavors; the ultimate aim is to create the perfect cup of coffee for customers.
Coffee Lab isn't a café that happens to be called a lab. Experimentation is the actual proposition: brews, blends and flavour combinations tested and retested in pursuit of the perfect cup. The brief was to build an identity that made that idea visible on a shopfront and a takeaway cup, and to do it in a way that felt trendy and playful rather than clinical.
That tension shaped the work. Lean too far into the laboratory idea and a café starts to feel sterile — the opposite of what anyone wants from coffee. Ignore it, and you've designed a generic café brand with a curious name.
We designed the identity to sit between the two: a visual system that borrows the precision and curiosity of a lab — measurement, method, the sense of something being tested — while staying warm, colourful and fun to look at. The design leans on the vocabulary of experimentation without turning the café into a chemistry set.
The identity was applied across the touchpoints that carry a café brand: cups, packaging, signage and in-store materials, where the "lab" idea has the most room to be enjoyed rather than explained.
Tell us what you’re building. We’ll come back with a scope and a price.
